Stop 10 – Jaisalmer

Drove to the golden sandstone town of Jaisalmer. We visited the Jaisalmer fort (Sonar Fort) which houses a citadel within its huge ramparts and Jain temples. We strolled through the narrow cobbled stone lanes and visited the four gates called Pols, including the Ganesh Pol, Suraj Pol, Bhoota Pol, and the Hava Pol.  The streets are lined with exquisitely carved buildings.

Later in the day, we drove out Thar desert and Sam Sand Dunes. We took a sunset camel safari, had dinner under the stars, and a night in a luxury tent.

The next day after breakfast we drove back to Jaisalmer and visited the Havelis, mansions of the rich merchants. They have beautifully carved facades, jali screens, and oriel windows overhanging the streets below. In particular Salim Singh Haveli (17 century), Nathumal Haveli (1885), and Patwon Haveli (1805).
